CASE STUDY I am blessed to have trusting friends that give me creative freedom with commissions (well, almost). This couple had no firm idea of the style of the rings they wanted except for them to have a relationship with each other and be simple in style. They conveniently shared the same ring size. I know these two well, they're quite different in personality but they share a love of stories. They wanted narrow bands 3.5mm each in width, which doesn't allow much room for detail. The striking imagery when we were discussing the design was the distinct landscapes behind the wedding photos. They chose to have a private ceremony in Cape Town, Sth Africa with the dramatic Table Mountains behind and then surprised their friends with a huge party at Mudgee in NSW afterwards. I thought for ages on how I could express these two distinct landscapes that would represent for them their private and public ceremony's. It finally came to me and I cut out the two horizons from opposing coloured gold's with the rolling hills of Mudgee on the inner and the table mountains on the outer. When the ring was complete I cut it in half giving the land half to the one I consider more grounded and the other to my old friend who can be somewhat.. flightier. They love them. Apart, the rings are abstract and quiet in detail but when placed together they tell a story. |
FORTUNATELY I NEVER TIRE OF HEARING STORIES OF LOVE! |
